KEOKUK, IA -- A Keokuk company is ready to jump into the ethanol industry.

Roquette produces grain by-products like wheat starch.

Now the company plans to break ground on a new ethanol plant in 2008 and get the facility up and running in 2009.

It will be located on property the company owns next to the current facility between fifth and seventh streets.

Roquette is partnering with an Iowa company to make this project happen.

"I think it's a great opportunity for the Keokuk area," Roquette Technology Senior Dricetor Dominique Baumann said. "We're looking forward to this project to be successful to keep people in Keokuk and create jobs in Keokuk."

Bauman also said the ethanol plant will belong to the area farmers who provide the grain to make the product.
