LOUISIANA, MO. -- Louisiana, Missouri wants to bring a casino to the city's riverfront.
Mayor Tom Wallace says there are quite a few hoops the city has to jump through to even get a casino license, even then that does not ensure the city will get a vendor interested in coming to Louisiana.
Money is another issue.
It costs $50,000 just to apply for the license.
And that money is non-refundable.
Wallace says he has told the Missouri Gaming Commission the city is interested in getting a casino.
But the best bet for Louisiana is finding a casino interested in moving there and willing to help pay the application fee.
Nevertheless, Wallace says a casino would be a big boost to a Louisiana economy that has been devastated by losing businesses.
"Because that'll give us 141-160 jobs, it'll help us with our infrastructure, it'll pay a dividend for us," said Wallace.
Mayor Wallace also said the casino could bring more small businesses into the many vacant buildings in town.
