Monroe City Elementary students spent the last couple weeks raising money for a good cause.

Students raised more than $5,000 of donations for people suffering from heart conditions.

Jump Rope for Heart is something that P.E. teacher Melissa Chinn is passionate about.

So passionate, that she was willing to cut off 10 inches of her hair and even take pies in the face from her students if they reached the goal.

Chinn said that after only raising around $3,000 last year she knew $5,000 was a high goal but she was confident that the kids could do it.

Chinn's hair was donated to the Locks of Love.
