Flu shots available for WIU students

MACOMB, ILL. -- Western Illinois University's Beu Health Center will offer six seasonal flu shot clinics next week for Western students on the Macomb campus.

Flu shots are free of charge; however, students must present a valid WIU ID card. Due to the limited amount of vaccine available, shots will be provided on a first come, first served basis.

The clinics will be held:

Tuesday, Oct. 12
10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m, University Union Concourse
4:00-7:00 p.m., Thompson Hall Dining Center

Wednesday, Oct. 13
10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m, University Union Concourse
4:00-7:00 p.m., Bayliss-Henninger Dining Area

Thursday, Oct. 14
10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m, University Union Concourse
4:00-7:00 p.m., Lincoln-Washington-Grote halls "pit"

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), influenza (flu) is a contagious disease caused by the influenza virus, which spreads from infected persons from the nose or mouth. The flu can cause fever, sore throat, chills, fatigue, cough, headache and muscle aches. In some people, the flu can lead to pneumonia and can be dangerous for people with heart or breathing conditions.
