An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

It seems as if new information comes out every day about the best ways to stay healthy.

When it comes to food, how do you know which foods are good or bad for you?

Jarod Wells is answering an age-old question about a favorite fruit and your health in this KHQA Safe Family health report.

You've always heard that an apple a day keeps the doctor away.  Is this true or false?

BRCN Senior Trista Feldkamp said, "Actually, the truth is, a handful a handful of blueberries is more effective at keeping the doctor away. Blueberries are full of antioxidants and fiber."

All chemistry aside, your parents and grandparents have been right about at least one thing.

BRCN Senior Sara Long said, "By eating your fruits and vegetables, it helps you in the long run. It helps decrease your risk for heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes."

Which means it's extremely important to feed your kids fruits and veggies at a young age and keep them a consistent part of their diet as they grow up. If you want to find out how much earth-grown goodness your children should be getting, enter their age, sex and level of physical activity at fruitsandveggiesmatter.gov.
