ALEXANDRIA, MO. -- UPDATED: February 15 at 3:03 p.m.

KHQA's Brooke Hasch called the Clark County Sheriff's office Tuesday about the investigation into the body found in Gregory Landing on November 9, 2010.

Shawn R. Wright, age 40, of Kahoka, Mo. was found dead near a river camp just south of Alexandria, Mo.

Police have narrowed the search to one suspect, who is male.

The suspect is housed currently in the Missouri Department of Corrections on other charges and violation of parole.

Clark County Sheriff Paul Gaudette says the case has now been turned over to the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Burlington investigators in the state of Iowa because Wright's death was the "cause of a crime that happened in Iowa" even though the body was found in Missouri.

The only thing that the state of Missouri could charge the suspect with is Unlawful Disposition of a Corpse.

KHQA will let you know of any new developments in the case.

UPDATE: November 10 at 6:00 p.m.

People who live near the Gregory Landing area tell KHQA they think authorities are working the case as a homicide investigation. But, the Clark County Sheriff's Department has only confirmed it is conducting a "death investigation."

Tuesday, a man's body was found south of Alexandria, Missouri.

Wednesday, KHQA's Brooke Hasch spoke to workers at the Gregory Landing Logsdon Elevator. They say the body was found near a river camp, about a quarter of a mile north of the elevator.

Locals says a farmer found the body while walking along the river. He immediately called 911.

"Sometime during the afternoon, authorities showed up and taped everything off. They were here into the evening. When I left, they were hooking up lights, so I assume they were here through the night. I just heard that they found a dead body and they're investigating it as a homicide. Something like this is unheard of for Gregory Landing," said Dan Flickinger, an employee at the elevator.

Again, the Clark County Sheriff's Department has not confirmed the case as a homicide.

Deputy Robert Becker told KHQA more information will be released once the autopsy results come in.
