HANNIBAL, MO. -- The Hannibal Police Department responded to a Disturbance in Progress call on Saturday in the 2200 block of Hope St.

When the officers arrived, they were told that two male subjects had been fighting and that 33-year-old Darcy L. Morris of Hannibal was hiding in the residence because of an active warrant.

After being granted permission to search the house, they found Morris hiding in a closet beneath some clothing.

He was arrested and once taken to the patrol car he began to struggle with the arresting officers. He continued to resist arrest at the police department.

Officers remaining on scene were able to contact 23-year-old Michael D. McPike of Hannibal, who was the other subject involved in the altercation.

He appeared to be intoxicated and had injuries consistent with being assaulted. As officers interviewed him, McPike began to get belligerent and was aggressive towards the officers. At that point  49-year-old Cathy L. Washington, also of Hannibal, attempted to calm PcPike down and was struck by him.

The officer arrested McPike after a short struggle. McPike was transported to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment of an injury to his forehead as a result of his resisting arrest.

Morris was charged with 4 counts of Resisting Arrest, Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Property Damage and an active warrant for Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.

McPike was charged with Resisting Arrest, Domestic Assault and an active Lincoln County Failure to Appear traffic warrant.

Washington was also arrested on an outstanding Marion County warrant. She did not require emergency medical treatment following the incident.
