Staying safe this holiday season doesn't end once you reach your destination and doesn't apply simply to humans.

There are a few things you need to pay attention to to keep your pets safe as well.

Some holiday plants like Poinsettias, and the berries from Mistletoe and Holly can be dangerous if ingested by your pets.

And while many pets will be getting gifts this holiday season, you should be careful when your dog or cat tries to open them.

"I know sometimes dogs get curious and like to get in there and chew on the paper, cats as well can chew on the tinsel and those things can cause intestinal obstruction so yo need to watch them around the packages," said Quincy Humane Society Executive Director Sally Westerhoff.

You also need to watch what your pets are eating.

While many of us will overeat this Christmas, you shouldn't give your pet too many table scraps.

As always keep chocolate and alcoholic drinks away from your furry friends.
