DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- MidAmerican Energy Co. says it will build wind projects in four Iowa counties, erecting enough turbines to power 190,000 homes.

According to a news release issued Tuesday, the Des Moines-based MidAmerican will buy 258 turbines from Siemens Energy that each can generate 2.3 megawatts of electricity.

The wind projects will be built in Adair, Adams, Calhoun, Cass and Marshall counties.

Spokeswoman Ann Thelen says the generators are expected to be producing electricity for MidAmerican's 1.4 million retail customers in Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois and South Dakota by early 2012.

MidAmerican also is buying a wind project near Laurel from RPM Access. That project includes 52 of the Siemens turbines.

Thelen would not release any financial information.

She says Omaha-based Berkshire Hathaway owns 89 percent of MidAmerican Holdings Co.
