HANNIBAL, MO. -- I know when I'm travelling, it seems I can be almost anywhere in the world, and someone I meet will have heard of Hannibal, Missouri, thanks to Mark Twain.

Not as many people realize that Hannibal is the birthplace of the unsinkable Molly Brown, who became known for her heroic efforts during the Titanic disaster.

If you haven't been to the Molly Brown Birthplace & Museum, it's worth the trip.

Just ask Beau Hicks, who's the director of the Hannibal Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

Of course the birthplace has been open to tourists for several years, but it's recently been turned over to the bureau.

The Molly Brown House will host a community open house from October 19 to October 21.  That is also the same weekend as the Hannibal Folklife Festival.
