Body of missing Keokuk man found

FOLEY, MO. -- UPDATED: March 19 at 11:15 a.m.

On March 16, 2011 a body was discovered in the Mississippi River along Lincoln County, Missouri and was recovered by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Water Patrol Division. During the autopsy, conducted on March 18, 2011, the body was positively identified as the missing person of Jack L. Stevens, age 31, of Keokuk, Iowa. 
    
Jack Stevens has been missing since entering the Des Moines River, at Alexandria, Missouri on November 3, 2010, while attempting to escape arrest by the Clark County Sheriff's Office, for a felony offense of possession of anhydrous ammonia in a non-approved container. 
 
The immediate family has been notified and Jack's parents would like to extend their appreciation to the Iowa and Missouri emergency personnel for their on-going efforts in the search for their son.

Lincoln County, Missouri authorities are trying to identify the body found in the Mississippi River just north of Foley, Mo.

The body was discovered Wednesday.

Lincoln County Coroner Robert Shramek says the body was badly decomposed.

An autopsy was performed this Friday morning. Shramek says drowning was the cause of death.
