CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, ILL. -- Students, faculty and staff thought they had a shooter on the loose at the University of Illinois Thursday morning.

It turned out to be a false alarm.

KHQA received information from a viewer, saying that the university sent an email to all of its employees at 9:41 a.m. Thursday.  The email claimed there was a shooter on the loose on campus, and urged everyone to take cover.

KHQA was told that twelve minutes later, the university sent another email which stated the previous email was sent accidentally, and that there was no shooter.

The viewer questioned, "How can such a horrendous email be sent 'accidentally'?"
