HANNIBAL, MO. -- Hannibal police arrested 26-year-old Richard B. Tichenor at 5 p.m. Friday on felony assault charges.

Police were called to the 500 block of North Street and found that a resident of the home had attacked a female worker with a shovel.

Police say Tichenor had been arguing with the 20-year-old worker, and when she told him he couldn't leave, he jumped over a railing and attacked her with a shovel.

Tichenor allegedly hit the woman several times with the shovel and after it broke, tried to hit her with the broken handle.

She was transported to Hannibal Regional Health Care for treatment.

Tichenor was arrested at the scene for assault and placed on a 24 hour hold in the Marion County Jail.

Police found an active criminal arrest warrant for Tichenor in Green County, Missouri for Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree.
