QUINCY, ILL. -- Local women's shelters need your help to raise awareness and resources for families in need, and they say there's a fun weekend of activities ahead to do it.

The Madonna House and Quanada are teaming up for the third annual "Back on Her Feet Walk" coming up on Saturday, April 9. Area walkers and supporters are encouraged to create teams to raise money and food for the two women's shelters.

The idea is to allow folks to take a walk in the shoes of single mothers taking kids to daycare and going grocery shopping without transportation in Quincy.

Like many service organizations, the Madonna House and Quanada continually face state cuts which threatens the future of helping area women and children.

"What we're trying to do is not be so self-reliant on state funds, so its really important that we get out and develop some fund raising opportunities. This is a really fun activity that we can provide at a low cost and at the same time they're able to support not one but two non-profits here in town," said Barb Hicks, the Executive Director for Madonna House.

Pre-registering for the walk now gets you free tickets to a Christian concert to benefit the Madonna House on Friday, April 8.

This family friendly concert features the up and coming Christian rock group the Sidewalk Prophets.

The Hannibal band, Consumed, and the American Idol hopeful Jared Keim will also perform.
