Flooding closes I-72 near Jacksonville, Ill.

I-72 was closed just east of Jacksonville, Illinois. Traffic was and may continue to be diverted.

MyJournalCourier.com says that Interstate 72 was closed at about 8:40 a.m. because of flooding at the Jacksonville/Morton Avenue exit and remained closed Saturday morning.

Eastbound traffic was being redirected westbound and westbound traffic was being rerouted onto the exit ramp and back onto the interstate.

Ill. 104 between Jacksonville and Franklin is closed until further notice because of multiple flooded areas. 

Ill. 104 west of Jacksonville was clear about 10:35 a.m. all the way to Meredosia.

Old State Road was shut down about 5:30 a.m.

East College and East Morton Avenue were among several streets in Jacksonville that were closed as well.

Motorists trying to reach Interstate 55 were being rerouted at about 10:15 a.m. because of flooding on I-72 to Ill. 267 South to Ill. 16 then east to I-55 or to U.S. 67 North to Ill. 125 to I-55.

With heavy rain continuing, more flooding was expected through the region, especially in Jacksonville, Alexander, Franklin, Waverly and Woodson, according to the National Weather Service.

Jacksonville has declared a state of emergency limiting water use to just basic needs ... this is in effect in city of Jacksonville until further notice.
