This weekend it will be the sound of gun and cannon fire ringing out in the small town of Athens, Missouri. 

The reenactment of the Battle of Athens happens this Saturday and Sunday and the two day event will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War battle.

This historic site encompasses much of the town including "The Cannonball House," which still exhibits two holes made through the kitchen walls by a cannonball during the battle.

The real civil war battle began August 5th, 1861.  Missouri State Parks' website lists the Battle of Athens as the most northern battle fought west of the Mississippi during the Civil War.

More than 150 reenactors will gather to commemorate an accurate account of the two day battle and daily life in Athens at that time.

Camps will open at 9 a.m. each day and give those in attendance a chance to see living history.
