Representatives with Make a Wish even gave Ally a Hawaiian vacation wardrobe.
HAMILTON, ILL. -- The back story: Extreme Makeover Home Edition recently announced it is coming to Illinois. That's given one Hamilton girl hope for her dream of becoming independent.
Ally Carel's cerebral palsy makes it difficult to get around her home and around town in her wheelchair. The Carel family applied for the show in March and is one of a handful of finalists.
Make a Wish: While the Carels are waiting to hear from that show, Ally was granted a wish through the Make a Wish Foundation. Friends and family in Hamilton held a send off celebration for the family Monday afternoon in Carel's school gym. Representatives with Make a Wish even gave her a Hawaiian vacation wardrobe.
"The kids were all really excited. I decided to do this because Ally always talks about how much she loves her school and classmates. So what better way to send her off than with the people that she loves," said Cassidy Staker, with Make a Wish.
"What are you going to do in Hawaii? 'Go over the volcano and swim with the dolphins," said Carel.
The Carels left for St. Louis Monday evening. They'll catch a plane for their week-long trip to Hawaii Tuesday morning.
