A blue, sunny sky wasn't the only thing that had people looking up in Brown County Tuesday afternoon.
Adams Electric Cooperative held an open house for its new wind turbine east of Mt. Sterling.
The new power source went online at the beginning of September.
It's expected to supply about 4 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year -- that's enough power for about 300 to 400 homes.
The wind turbine is 281 feet tall, 403 feet counting the blade.
Each blade is 122 feet long and weighs about 6 tons each.
Bill Stalder with Adams Electric Cooperative says Illinois is ranked 16th in the nation for wind energy potential.

The Adams County Electric Cooperative invites you to check out its newest renewable energy project Tuesday night.
Officials will host an open house for the new Brown County Wind Turbine, located east of Mt. Sterling, from 2:30-6:30 p.m.
It stands more than 400 feet tall to the tip of the blades and will supply enough electricity to power three to four hundred homes a year.
