QUINCY, ILL. -- It was standing room only at John Wood Community College Tuesday night, as postal service employees and the community turned out to hear about the U.S. Postal Service's proposal to close the Quincy Processing and Distribution Center.
Those operations would be moved to Columbia, Missouri.
The plan is part of a nation-wide review.
District Manager David Martin told the audience that first-class mail has declined 20 percent since 2006 and will continue to decline.
He also said more than 50 percent of all bills are now paid online.
One area resident also said that she would not use the postal service if the Quincy facility closed.
The U.S. Postal Service will accept public comments until December 7th.
The company says it will review all comments before making a final decision.
