PITTSFIELD, ILL. -- Several community groups are also trying to make sure there are presents under the Christmas tree this year for those who aren't as fortunate.

The Illinois State Police in Pittsfield will make Christmas a little brighter for people directly affected by the tornado that hit Joplin Missouri last May.

Lt. Brad Lacey says troopers and employees of District 20 in Pittsfield are collecting donations of money and toys to ship to the police department and first responders in Joplin.

"I talked to the chief of police in Joplin and he was really touched by the fact that as far away as we are, we were willing to give to their cause and he was very humbled," said Lacey.

You can drop off your donation to either the District 20 headquarters in Pittsfield or the Quincy Walmart.
