UPDATED: Friday, January 13 at 4:20 p.m.

Authorities are looking for a missing Jefferson City teen, 16-year-old Lindsay Miller.

They believe she is with her 25-year-old boyfriend, Sergio Sayles, and could be heading to the state of California. It was earlier reported by KRCG in Jefferson City that they were in a vehicle with Illinois license plates.

Thursday night the Cole County Sheriff's Department got information from sources saying miller was in Arizona, heading to California.

Miller's mother told law enforcement her daughter had left town with Sayles on her own will January 3.

Cole County Sheriff's Captain John Wheeler said an Amber Alert hasn't been issued because Miller doesn't meet the criteria for it.

"In order for it to be an Amber Alert, she would have to be in danger of some type and we have no indication that she's in any danger whatsoever and also, there's several aspects that have to be covered before it's an amber alert and she doesn't meet that criteria," Wheeler said.

Earlier reports said Sayles is armed and dangerous, wheeler said he doesn't believe that's the case.

However he did say that Sayles is wanted in Missouri.

They believe the couple are traveling in a dark blue Dodge Stratus with the Illinois license plate N416204.

Since local law enforcement believe the two have crossed state lines, the FBI has been notified.

If you have any information call the Cole County Sheriff's Department at 573-634-9160.

KHQA is sharing this story from our sister station KRCG in Jefferson City, Mo. due to the uncertainty of the missing teen's location and destination.

Original Story:

The Missouri Highway Patrol has put out a missing persons report for a 16-year-old Jefferson City girl who disappeared more than a week ago.

Family and friends have not heard from Lindsay Miller since she left with a male friend January 3rd.

Her mother told law enforcement Lindsay had apparently left town with her boyfriend, 25-year-old Sergio Sayles, and was not taken against her will.

Sayles is wanted by police and is considered armed and dangerous.

A news release from the Cole County Sherriff's Department says the two are supposedly traveling in a dark blue Dodge Stratus with an Illinois license plate of N416204.

They are believed to be going to the state of California and authorities believe Miller last known location was in Arizona.

Since authorities believe the two have crossed state lines, they have notified the FBI.

Miller is a white female weighing 130lbs. She stands five feet tall.
