Child abuse and neglect is on the rise in Adams County.

In the recently released Illinois Kids Count 2012 Report, child abuse increased 20 percent over a four-year time period.

That's compared to a statewide increase of nine percent.

The annual report details the challenges and opportunities faced by Illinois children in specific counties.

Most of the numbers revolve around areas such as economic well being, education, health and safety.

Quincy residents gathered at the Chaddock chapel Thursday afternoon to hear the data findings.

"I think this information is very important as we looks for grants and funding for various programs," said Debbie Reed, president and CEO of Chaddock School. "For funders it helps determines where the greatest areas of needs are so hopefully we can all work together collaboratively to best meet our kids needs."

Reed also said that Adams County will use the report to see how the community can provide support for children and families to prevent child abuse and neglect.
