The United Way of Adams County is busy during it's sixth year, preparing taxes for Adams County residents.

Volunteer Income Tax Assisstance, or VITA, is a United Way funded service that offers free tax preparation for qualifying families and individuals until April 17th.

Qualifying families include those with income less than $50,000 annual income and individuals with income less than $25,000 annual income.

Trained United Way volunteers are there preparing the basic tax returns.

The United Way is proud to be able to provide tax preparation to the community through VITA,  providing savings to those families with preparation and filing expenses. 

Since 2007, VITA has served more than 1300 families and the United Way of Adams County has witnessed a demand for the IRS sponsored program.  In 2010, 360 people filed with VITA and the past year resulted in a 120 person increase.  Shay Cookson, a United Way VITA volunteer, said the increase is due to people finding out about the service through word of mouth in the community.
