Boy found dead in pond

COLONY, MO. -- UPDATED: Wednesday at 1:31 p.m.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has confirmed the body of 6-year-old Christin Baucom was found in a pond Wednesday afternoon. Click here to read the newest details.

The Knox County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol still are looking for a missing 6-year-old boy in Colony, Missouri and Wednesday the ground search and search by air has continued with more than 75 volunteers.

An endangered persons advisory has been issued for Christin Baucom. He is 3 feet-4 inches tall, weighs 50 pounds and has blonde hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a gray shirt, blue jeans and no shoes when he went missing just minutes before 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Christin has autism and will not answer when his name is called.

"It makes it a little more challenging in that as a normal 6-year-old kid. You can't yell to him. He won't respond to his name, so it makes it harder. And the fact that he's autistic, if he hears some noise, he could just hunker down and hide rather than come out in the open and we'd locate him," Lt. Nelson Elfrink with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

The search is concentrated within a 2-mile radius.

KHQA's Lindsey Boetsch was able to confirm that one pond has been drained and a dive team is in place in another.

Volunteers are searching on horseback, all-terrain vehicles and on foot while an airplane is circulating overhead.

KHQA spoke with a substitute teacher who had Baucom in her class. Danielle Bair says she could easily see the boy hiding somewhere. If that's the case, she says it'll take a group effort to find him.

"I think this shows the true community that we live in. The  heart of everybody, that when someone needs something, we're all going to come together. We're going to do what it takes to find him, and we're not going to stop searching until he's found," Bair said.

When asked if this could be a kidnapping, the Missouri State Highway Patrol stated that it is looking at all possibilities.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol group also told us that Christin's twin brother drowned near the home last August when he wandered away.

Anyone who has information related to Baucom's disappearance should immediately dial 9-1-1, the Highway Patrol - Troop B at 660-385-2132 or the Knox County Sheriff's Dept. at 660-397-2186.
