Quincy man arrested after Friday night stabbing

QUINCY, ILL. -- A Quincy man is in jail after allegedly stabbing a man late Friday night.

Emergency responders were called to the scene of stabbing that had just occurred at 632 N. 5th St. around midnight. When officers arrived, they found Joseph H. Fielding, 64, of Quincy, had been stabbed once in the abdomen. Fielding was transported to the Blessing Hospital Emergency Room in serious condition.

Following an investigation, police arrested 36-year-old Chad E. Payne in the 1100 block of North 7th Street in Quincy. Payne was arrested for Armed Violence and Aggravated Battery. Payne was booked at Quincy Police Headquarters before being lodged in the Adams County Jail.

UPDATE: At last report, Fielding was in stable condition at Blessing Hospital.
