QUINCY, ILL. -- Quincy's Washington Park was filled with wagging tails and wet noses Saturday.

Paw Pals held its fifth annual Mardi Pals in the District fundraiser. The event featured a Barkus Parade and the infamous Dachshund Derby. Mardi Pals is the main fundraiser for Paw Pals. All proceeds go directly to the non-profit's mobile outreach program, which provides emergency pet care food and other items for pet owners in need.

"I just smile," said Jane Holt, Paw Pals executive director. "It's so fun when we walk the parade and I turn around and see all these dogs coming down the street, all these people out here with their wiener dogs out here supporting us. It really means a lot to us to have the community's support."

Holt said this years Mardi Pals was one of the largest turnouts the organization has ever had.
