QUINCY, ILL. -- Friday is Arbor Day, a day set aside to plant and care for trees.

A red bud tree was donated by Bergman Nurseries in Quincy to plant at the Quincy Family YMCA.

The YMCA didn't use staff to put this tree in the ground, it used some of its youngest members, four and five-year-olds who are part of the Y's preschool program.

Five-year-old student Aidan said he'd never planted a tree before, but described the experience as, "Cool."

"I think other people that see this tree will like it because they think the leaves are pretty," another student named Ivy said.

Arbor Day began in 1872 in Nebraska City, Neb. The national holiday is celebrated every year on the last Friday in April. Most observances involve the planting of a tree.
