MACOMB, ILL. -- A plea deal may come Monday for the former Macomb Basketball Coach accused of having an indecent relationship with a student.

A former Macomb High School basketball coach is negotiating a plea with the state on charges that say he had sex with a 17-year-old student, the McDonough County State's Attorney said.

Dan Watson was a teacher and boys basketball coach at Macomb High School at the time of his August arrest.

State's Attorney James Hoyle said Friday that he is currently negotiating a plea and that it could become official at a hearing scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday at the McDonough County Courthouse. Watson was set to appear at a pre-trial hearing Tuesday with his jury trial scheduled to begin later in the month.

"We're trying to get it done by Monday," Hoyle said.

Hoyle said he could not reveal any of the details of the tentative plea agreement. Attempts to reach Watson's attorney, Craig Pierce of Bushnell, Ill., were unsuccessful.

Watson was charged with a count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and two counts of official misconduct in connection with an alleged relationship with a 17-year-old female student.

The Macomb School District officially severed ties with Watson on Feb. 20.

The board approved a resignation agreement with Watson, and rescinded its earlier notice of termination. Under the agreement, his resignation took effect in December with the district paying him to cover the time period he was on unpaid administrative leave.
