A federal magistrate judge signed off on a psychological examination for a Quincy man charged with producing child pornography.

Jonathan Cashion, 20, of 1131 ½ Madison St. was arrested Feb. 15 on charges of sexual exploitation of a child and distribution of child pornography. He's remained in the Sangamon County Jail since his arrest.

A motion filed May 15 by Cashion's attorney Ashli Summer McKeivier requested a forensic psychological evaluation. U.S. Magistrate Judge Byron Cudmore granted the request.

Cashion will be examined by Dr. Steven Gaskell of Psychological Clinical Assessment Service of Naperville, Ill.

An eight-page criminal complaint filed in February details the investigation into Cashion that began in September from an FBI office in New Haven, Conn.

Using an Internet protocol address, investigators were able to track images depicting child pornography to a Comcast Cable subscriber in Quincy, Ill. later identified as Cashion, the criminal complaint says.

The FBI and the Quincy Police Department served a search warrant at Cashion's home where investigators presented him with printed photographs of the images pulled from an online directory linked to Cashion. He admitted that the photographs were the same ones that he shared online, the complaint says.

The complaint described sex acts performed in the images and videos with minors identified only as Minor Victims 1-3.

It also said that he admitted that he recorded several sexual incidents with minors with his cellular telephone and a handheld camcorder.

Cashion told investigators that he took at least 200 sexual photos and 40-50 videos of one victim, 20 videos of a second, and as many as four videos with a third, the complaint said.

Cashion is scheduled to appear at a May 24 pre-trial conference at the federal courthouse in Springfield. His trial is scheduled for 9 a.m. June 5.
