The leader of the Quincy Public School system is moving on.

Superintendent Lonny Lemon announced at Wednesday's school board meeting that he will leave the district June 30, school board president Bill Daniels said.

Lemon accepted a superintendent position for a K-8 district in Libertyville, Ill.

Daniels said that the school district will now focus on finding his replacement. The district has avoided using a headhunting service to hire its superintendents, Daniels said.

"We will develop a packet and advertise with the Illinois Association of School Administrators," he said. "We've never used a headhunting firm or a professional search firm."

Daniels also said that an interim superintendent could be hired until a more permanent replacement is found.

Lemon was hired with the school district in 2008. He has actively sought employment in other districts. He was a finalist for a position in the Quad-Cities earlier this year.
