QUINCY, ILL. -- Two Tri-State women are shaving their heads to help area cancer patients.

Its all part of an event called "A Million Strands of Hope," this Sunday to benefit the Blessing Hospital Foundation and the Blessing Cancer Center.

Reagan Reis and Gretchen Rosson organized the unique fundraiser and will face electric razors "head on" to raise money for cancer awareness.

The idea for the unique event stemmed from a small comment that blew up on Facebook.

"My boyfriend was making a comment about my hair in the sink and said, 'I would pay you to shave your head.'  I thought about it and put it on Facebook to ask people if they would pay to watch me shave my head and tons of people were all for it," Reis said.

Gretchen Rosson was one of those who responded to the Facebook post. She had already decided to shave her head along with her mother-in-law who has cancer and has lost her hair. She joined forces with Reagan to shave her head.

"I had already decided to shave my head so she wasn't the only person who was bald," Rosson said.

'Million Strands of Hope' kicks off this Sunday, June 3 from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. at Instant Replay in Quincy.

In addition to shaving Reis' and Rosson's hair off at 4 p.m., there will be food, music, entertainment, raffles and drawings.
