LAGRANGE, MO. -- A twenty-two year fishing tradition continued Tuesday in the Tri-States.

Twelve residents of the Illinois Veterans Home took a trip over to LaGrange, Missouri to test their fishing prowess.

Most of the fish they caught made the trip back to the Veterans Home to be released in the pond on campus.

The veterans will then get a chance to reel them in a second time.

"They catch the fish here today, we put them in oxygen bags and they take them back over to the home. These old guys will be down there in the morning trying to catch these fish a second time. That's what you call getting full value of the fish you catch," Russ Heindselman, the owner of Heindselman Fishery said.

In the twenty-two years, Russ says they have only had rain one time and every year has been a blessing.

Residents enjoy the fishing, the food and the friends. It is something they look forward to every year.

"What's not to like? This is a great time. The weather was great, the fishing is great, good camaraderie," Illinois Veterans Home resident Ray Wernstrum said. "We look forward to this trip."

The vets reeled in more than one hundred fish during the big event.
