Ameren Transmission Co. of Illinois will hold a series of public open houses in area communities, beginning next week, to share information about the planned 345,000-volt Illinois Rivers electric transmission line.
Open houses will be held:
Tuesday, July 17 -- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Schuyler-Industry Middle School, Rushville, and 5 to 8 p.m., Brown County High School, Mount Sterling
Wednesday, July 18 -- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Elks Club, Beardstown
Thursday, July 19 -- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Meredosia-Chambersburg High School, Meredosia; 5 to 8 p.m., American Legion, Bluffs; and 5 to 8 p.m., Oakley-Lindsay Center, Quincy.
The Illinois Rivers project would stretch 330 miles from Palmyra, Mo., to Sugar Creek, Ind. A 41-mile spur would be built between Meredosia and Ipava, and another 28-mile line would link the Rising and Sidney substations near Champaign.
Transmission lines along the corridor would be available to deliver renewable energy and improve the transmission system. The project is expected to cost between $890 million and $1.4 billion, with the transmission company paying farmers one-time easements and providing $20,000 a mile to the counties through which the line passes.
