KEOKUK, IOWA -- A tentative contract agreement has been reached between the Untied Steelworkers Local 444 union and Henniges Automotive in Keokuk.

The Keokuk Daily Gate City reports that union members will meet at  2 p.m. Friday to review the new proposal and vote on accepting a new 3 year contract.

The old contract expired on July 10th.

Three years ago, workers at the plant made several concessions on pay and benefits including a 50 cent an hour wage cut to prevent a strike.

Now that the economy has improved, employees want to see that improvement reflected in their new contract.

After the first round of negotiations failed, the steel workers continued to work under the terms of their previous contract during this second round of negotiations.

No details of the tentative agreement will be released until the ratification vote on Friday.
