MONROE CITY, MO. -- At first glance, three-year-old Madilynn St. Clair looks like your typical toddler. You would never know she's gone through five heart surgeries and been in and out of the hospital for most of her life. She suffers from a congenital heart defect.

"She's a pretty feisty little girl. She's been a fighter and she's fought more than I have and still has a smile," Kenny St. Clair, Madilynn's father said.

Madilynn was a patient at St. Louis Children's Hospital from last July until this May. She was home for only 12 days when she had complications and had to go back to the hospital.

"There isn't a next step really, it's just to keep her comfortable and let her try to be as much of a three and a half year old kid as she can be," St. Clair said. "She enjoys flowers, and gardens and gold fish and that's why they're doing these fountains, ponds and a flower garden."

The Make-A Wish-FoundationRoland OutdoorLowe's and friendly volunteers came together Saturday to make Madilynn's dream garden a reality.

"It's one of the best feelings in the world really," Ronnie Davis, senior project manager for Roland Outdoor said. "To provide something for somebody in their last days and just giving her a sense of fulfillment for her and her family."

"It's just one small way we can help them with all the struggles they've been going through," Nancy Shively, a volunteer said.

The volunteers built the garden right outside Madilynn's home. She'll be able to see it when she comes home from the hospital on Wednesday.

"I'm hoping that she laughs, smiles and gives us that cute little smile she always gives us when she's feeling good," St. Clair said.
