QUINCY, ILL. -- The Quincy City Council voted in favor of an amended video gambling ordinance for the city of Quincy.

In the last week or so, this issue has been the source of much discussion for and against the measure.

By a vote of 9 to 5, video gambling was approved in the city of Quincy Monday night.

One man who is happy with the council's vote is Don Heck of Heck Gaming.

"Well to be candid about it, I'm just glad it's over with. One way or the other I had to know as far as business decision moving forward," Hecks said. "I'm obviously grateful and pleased that it went the way it did."

On the other side of the issue were people like Bruce Rice the Executive Director of WGCA radio. He and other ministers were not in favor of the ordinance.

"The vote didn't go the way that I would like for it to have gone. However It was a close vote, 9-5, and I think in the future, city council members, we'll support them any way that we possibly can. But we also want to make people aware of the fact that this issue is never gonna go away." Rice said. "It's always gonna become more expanding and so we need to be careful and cautious."

Alderman Kyle Moore voted in favor of the ordinance. For him it was a matter of fairness and personal responsibility.

"We have to have faith in the people of Quincy that they will be responsible with their money." Moore said. "And I know, I've lived here most of my life, and I know the citizens of Quincy will do that."

The amended ordinance reduces the number of machines allowed in a bar from 5 to 2.

Mayor Spring says that some of the money from video gambling is earmarked to benefit places like Quincy University, John Wood Community College and the Illinois Veterans Home.
