BEARDSTOWN, ILL. -- An early morning standoff in Beardstown ended without injury Tuesday, according to Police Chief Tom Schlueter.

Schlueter said a man made a call to 911 at 4:45 a.m. stating that he was barricaded in an apartment, at 601 E. 4th St., with three guns and an accelerant.

A standoff, upon police arrival, lasted about an hour and a half and ended when police used a Tazer on the man, Schlueter said. The man is in custody, but not behind bars at the present time. Police could not confirm the motive or if this was a suicide attempt.

Sheriff's departments from both Cass and Schuyler County assisted in the standoff.
