Anarchists could be plotting violent actions at the Republican and Democratic national conventions, an intelligence bulletin prepared by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security warns.

The bulletin, obtained by CNN, suggests that anarchists might try to employ improvised explosive devises, and that as of March the FBI had intelligence indicating that individuals from New York hoped to go to Tampa Bay to attempt to close area bridges during the Republican National Convention.

In 2008, anarchists plotted blocking bridges and other transportation infrastructure.

"FBI and DHS assess with high confidence anarchist extremists will target similar infrastructure in Tampa and Charlotte, with potentially significant impacts on public safety and transportation," according to the law enforcement alert, reports CNN.

The intelligence document suggested that anarchists might be "engaging in potentially destructive criminal activities against critical infrastructure outside the security perimeter throughout the Tampa Bay region because they expected access to the main RNC venue to be tightly controlled."

While the FBI and DHS believe that most protesters will remain peaceful, they point out that anarchists are the most likely exceptions to this, according to CNN.

The bulletin further reminds law enforcement agencies that they should be on the lookout for anarchists trying to obtain weapons training, materials that could be used to make explosives, and preparing for violence with groups they typically oppose, such as white supremacists.
