QUINCY, ILL. -- Quincy-area residents will be on the move to end Alzheimer's Disease.

The annual Quincy Walk to End Alzheimer’s is  6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6 at Clat Adams Park. Registration begins at 5 p.m.

Last year, more than 680 people participated and raised $70,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association-Quincy Branch.

The money will be used to fund the branch’s programs and services for those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and their families. It also supports crucial Alzheimer’s research efforts and clinical trials.

More than 5.4 Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, which is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, and the only one that cannot be prevented, treated or cured. By midcentury, that number is expected to skyrocket to 16 million if no treatment or cure is found.

All participants who raise $100 or more will receive a commemorative Walk to End Alzheimer’s T-shirt. And for every $100 raised, each person’s name will be entered into a drawing for an iPad 3. The drawing will be held immediately after the walk.
