County commissioners tour Pike county jail

BOWLING GREEN, MISSOURI -- County commissioners in Pike County met earlier today to take a tour at the Pike County jail to discuss renovations. Sheriff Steven Korte says the renovations would include an increase in security by the addition of more staff and possibly a security fence to surround the premises.

Commissioner Dan Miller says the renovations would be a part of the next year's budget. Miller is confident the budget will have room for the security upgrades that the jail needs.

And after Friday's events of five inmates escaping, demand for increased security began to surface.

Korte assured that the area where the inmates escaped has been tended to and filled with cement to prevent future escape attempts.
