BLOOMFIELD, MO. -- An inmate who escaped from a Fort Madison, Iowa prison's work detail earlier this week was arrested Wednesday in Bloomfield, Mo.

The Missouri Highway Patrol arrested Steven Adcock after a short pursuit. He was driving a stolen truck from Kansas City, Mo. at the time of his arrest, according to a MHP press release.

Adcock was on a work detail at the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk about noon Monday when he fled and stole a truck, investigators in Iowa said.

Law enforcement from around the Tri-States fielded numerous reports of Adcock sightings throughout the week.

Adcock was arrested in the small Missouri town about 45 miles southwest of Cape Girardeau.

Adcock was admitted to John Bennett Correctional Center at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison on January 24, 2011.

He was serving a 16-year sentence for habitual burglary charges in numerous counties and drug possession.

Adcock currently is being held in the Stoddard County Jail and will appear in court Thursday for extradition proceedings.
