FORT MADISON, IOWA -- An escaped Fort Madison, Iowa prison inmate returned to Iowa with new charges after his arrest last week in Iowa.

Steven Adcock is now charged with escape and the theft of a motor vehicle that investigators believe he stole after escaping from a prison work detail at the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Prison officials said that he escaped Sept. 17. He was captured in Bloomfield, Mo., a small town about 45 miles southwest of Cape Girardeau.

Adcock was admitted to John Bennett Correctional Center at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison on January 24, 2011.

He was serving a 16-year sentence for habitual burglary charges in numerous counties and drug possession.

Adcock currently was held briefly at the Stoddard County Jail. He is now back at the prison in Fort Madison.
