ADAMS COUNTY, ILL. -- Caring for someone who has Alzheimer's or a related disorder is one of the biggest commitments a person can make.

It can be rewarding to help out a loved one, but it can be very stressful as well.

The Alzheimer's Association says it's important to recognize the signs of stress and deal with them before they get out of hand.

Some signs include quick temper, frustration and depression.

While these can be bad for your health, they also have a negative impact on the patient.

Tim Klobe with the Alzheimer's Association says, "If anything happens to that person, then who's going to care for their loved one. It's a situation where you don't want to not think about yourself, and only focus on the person you're caring for. That's the natural inclination. But when you do that, your health has a tendency to be secondary to your loved one's health. So, you need to keep that in mind."

The Alzheimer's Association will hold a class to learn about caregiver stress.

It's Tuesday, October 9 from 1:30-4 p.m. at the Mt. Sterling Community Center YMCA.
