QUINCY, ILL. -- Before you order a pizza this week, you'll want to make sure your smoke detectors are in working order. It could land you a free pizza.

Throughout this week, Quincy firefighters will team with local pizza shops as part of Fire Safety Week.

Five families will get picked each night between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Firefighters will show up at their door with their pizza and ask to test the home's smoke alarms. If allowed in and the tests go well, the customers gets the pizza for free. If not in working order, firefighters will install new batteries or a new smoke detector and the customer will have to pay for the pizza.

Firefighter Jerry Mast says working smoke detectors are required within 15 feet of all sleeping areas and on every level of the home.

Quincy firefighters will station themselves at Tower Pizza on Monday, Firehouse Pizza on Tuesday, Pop's Pizza on Wednesday, Papa John's on Thursday and Gem City Pizza on Friday.
