QUINCY, ILL. -- Quincy Police say an initial call of shots fired turned out to be a couple of kids shooting off air pistols.

Police got the call just after 11:30 a.m. Monday from a group of golfers at West View Golf Course.

When police arrived at the 1800 block of S. 30 St., Officer Doug Vandermaiden said they heard what they thought to be a shot.

More than a dozen police and sheriff's deputies in full gear responded to a nearby home but found no response. The homeowners were not home at the time but allowed police to search the house.

"Eventually, we did check the house and found no one in the house. The investigation shows there were juveniles shooting air pistols prior to the officers arriving," Vandermaiden said.

Traffic was closed for nearly an hour. Law enforcement began allowing traffic to resume in the area about 1:35 p.m.

There will be no further investigation, Vandermaiden said.
