BURLINGTON, IOWA -- A shooting in Burlington, Iowa sent two people to the hospital Sunday.

The Burlington Police and Fire Department responded to a call of "shots fired" shortly after 3 p.m. in the 1000 block of South10th Street.

Police located two individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds. Both individuals, a male and a female, were transported to the Great River Medical Center for treatment. The female victim was treated and released and the male was later transferred to University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.

A suspect in the shooting was apprehended shortly after, in the 500 block of Elm Street. Jermaine Laevelle Carr, 37, of Burlington, was arrested and charged with Willful Injury, a class D felony, and Intimidation With A Dangerous Weapon, a class C felony. Carr remains lodged at the Des Moines County Correctional pending a court appearance on Monday Oct. 22, 2012.

The investigation is still ongoing and being handled by the Burlington Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Assisting in the investigation was the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
