QUINCY, ILL. -- Quincy Mayor John Spring took the initial step toward seeking his third term in office.

The Democratic incumbent picked up a petition Tuesday, according to the Quincy City Clerk's Office.

Quincy Ald. Kyle Moore and Steve McQueen, who works at Huber Engineering, have picked up petitions for the Republican nomination.

“We'll make an official announcement later,” Moore said Wednesday. “I don't want to take away from the general election so we'll make an official comment later.”

Spring would not make an official annoucement Wednesday, but said that could come some time next week.

Independent candidate Roger Davis also picked up a petition.

Candidates can begin submitting petitions to the City Clerk's Office Nov. 19. Petitions are due by Nov. 26.
