ILLINOIS (AP) -- On December 4th more than a decade of political service to the citizens of Illinois' 97th District will come to an end.

Representative Jim Watson has announced that he is stepping down from his post.

The Associated Press reports that Watson is leaving the job to become the executive director for the Illinois Petroleum Council.

Jim Watson has served the 97th District, which includes Morgan County, where he recently voiced concerns over the closing of the Jacksonville Developmental Center.

Watson says deciding to step down from the position was difficult and that he has been honored to serve the people of his district.
