(AP) -- Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has been honored for his stance against gun violence in the state.

The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence awarded Quinn for his attempts to keep Illinois as the only state in the nation that doesn't allow concealed carry weapons.

They group also mentioned his proposal to ban assault weapons in the state.

Also honored at the event was outgoing U.S. Representative for Illinois' 10th congressional district Bob Dodd for his opposition to what the group calls "dangerous" gun legislation.
