MACON COUNTY, MO. -- A man and woman ended up behind bars Tuesday night following a high-speed chase through Macon, Randolph and Boone counties.

According to KTVO anchor and reporter John Garlock, the first suspect, 23-year-old Joshua Hood of Stella, Missouri, was driving a pickup stolen from Cassville, Missouri.

He faces felony charges of first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.

Hood is also charged with three misdemeanors which include operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and stealing motor fuel.

He remains held in the Macon County Jail without bond on a probation and parole warrant. Hood’s bond for the latest charges is set at $18,000.

The second suspect, 22-year-old Ashley Barnes of Kirksville, was a passenger in the stolen pickup truck.

Barnes is charged with two misdemeanors including second-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. She is free after posting bond.

The incident started around 6 p.m. Tuesday when Hood allegedly drove off from the La Plata Short Stop convenience store without paying for $140 worth of diesel fuel.

The pursuit began on the north edge of Macon when the pickup was spotted by a Macon County sheriff's deputy. Investigators said Hood failed to yield.

The pursuit by deputies and Missouri state troopers then continued south on Highway 63 out of Macon, all the way through Randolph County and into Boone County.

The truck finally came to a stop about 12 miles south of Moberly after it ran over spike strips put down by the highway patrol.

Court papers state that both suspects had to be physically removed from the truck.

The documents also state that a fight between Hood and a state trooper then started, and the Trooper used physical force to protect himself as he yelled “stop resisting” at the suspect. The two then fell to the ground. Investigators said Hood continued to resist arrest and kicked at the officers attempting to arrest him.

The struggle lasted approximately two minutes, according to court papers. The two suspects were then placed in patrol cars and read their Miranda Rights.
